For those of you who don't know it yet, the new TCS t-shirts arrived last week and are in stock at The Girls' Garage in St. Amant, LA.  Since putting them in the retail outlet, sales have increased and the popularity is growing as customers are making special trips to purchase the shirts!

Two new styles are the soft fitted womens' shirts in dark chocolate brown with turquoise Cancer Just Cure It and mens' Fatigue Green with the black Japanese kanji Cancer Warrior motif.  (see pics attached) These styles sell for $15 and the regular t's are still only $10.  If it's not accessible to come to The Girls' Garage, shipping can be arranged for an additional charge of $5 for 1-2 shirts and $7 for 3-4 shirts.  (Inquire if more are ordered.)

These shirts are HOT, HOT, HOT!  so inquire now about style & size availability.  Address emails to the_girls_garage@yahoo.com or visit us at 44014 Hwy. 431, St. Amant. LA  Phone:  225.622.8463  Mon.-Sat. 10 AM-6 PM.

Sorry for the delay in updates. In the past 2 months, the TCS team has worked the Baton Rouge Relay for life thanks to Melissa, Charlie, Scott and Lisa's efforts! We appreciate your hard work! The team also set up a booth at the Gonzales Jambalaya Festival on Friday, Sat and Sun. TCS raised over $600 at the festival alone, but the real value was getting our name out. Between the two relays, TCS raised $2500 dollars to help us help cancer patients. We recently made a very large shirt order. This order includes new vintage fitted shirts for men and women in new colors. You can see all the new shirts in person at The Girls Garage on Hwy 431 in Saint Amant. Lisa has a big display in the front of the store for all to see. The newly created TCS team shirts for our team members has been completely redesigned and looks great.

Stop by and check out Lisa's Garage and the new TCS store front!

Wow! The Gonzales Relay for Life was awesome in everyway and a big success for the ACS as well as the TCS team. I want to thank everyone who came out despite the weather being so bad earlier in the day. I got to see so many friends and folks that I've known for years and those I just met. The TCS team really appreciates your support of our efforts!

We are in need of some TCS volunteers to work the Baton Rouge Relay this weekend May, 11th, at the Baton Rouge State Fair Grounds to sell some shirts. If you'd like to do this, send us an email at thetcsteam@yahoo.com

Here is a current pic of the shirts in stock. Now this pic represents styles in stock, not sizes. After the Gonzales Relay, our sizes vs stock took a nice hit. So please inquire on the buy a shirt link on the left.

Cole at Easter last year...

March 15th, 2007  (sorry for the delay in updating! I promise to do a better job)

Its spring time again and the TCS team is getting geared up for the Relay for Life in Gonzales. As most of you know it was 2 years ago yesterday that Riki became and Angel. We had a nice dinner at Chili's last night with a few folks and it was wonderful. Despite the sadness of the day, seeing family and friends always helps out and leaves you feeling much better about it all.

Ok, so here is what's going on with the TCS:

Please visit our myspace page at www.myspace.com/teamcancersucks and check out the freinds list! its growing everyday with tons of great folks across the globe and lots of great friends right here in our back yard. What a crazy thing it is!  Once the new shirts come in, I expect a flood of request for them. Matter of fact, Im quite nervous that they wont last very long at all. Hopefully we can sell plenty and make enough money to order more very soon. This order has more designs and various color schemes. So it should be very interesting...stay tuned!

Thats all for now, as I will leave you with a pic of Riki just being herself with her little copy...

Buddy

Today we remember Kirby Hawthorne. One year ago today, we lost a beautiful child to cancer. She was in New Orleans at Tulane Medical center during Hurricane Katrina. The subsequent days that followed without power and procedures, Kirby's condition turned desperate. Please Keep Kirby's family in your prayers these few days. I know Kirby personally and she was as beautiful a person inside as she was outside. You are terribly missed Kirb.

Kirby, Early 2005 after finishing her first Round of treatments.

TCS Update: The garage sale has been moved to a new date. The new date will be October 7th, 2006. Please mark your calenders.

Riki Jo and Grandpa George at Riki's wedding April '02

Hello everyone! Here is the news from the front lines on the war with Cancer...

July 20th , 2006

Riki enjoying a feast!

I would like to take this opportunity to remind all those who visit this page, that today is Riki Jo's 30th Birthday. This Friday (July 21st) Family and close friends are invited to attend a dinner at Chili's to honor and remember Riki at her favorite restaurant.  Please also take a few moments this Sunday to visit a benefit for Hannah Theriot at St Johns Church in Praireville.  See the update below for details...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RIKI,                      We all love and miss you!

June 23rd , 2006 - BENEFIT ANNOUNCEMENT FOR HANNAH THERIOT!!!

Hannah is a two and a half year old resident of Gonzales, Louisiana. She is
the daughter of Kevin "Chick" and Kristen Theriot. She has one older
brother, Grant.

Hannah (at nine months old) was diagnosed with "Chronic Mucocutaneous
Candidiasis", which is a rare immune system disorder in which her T cells do
not function. She is therefore prone to severe yeast and fungal infections
which in turn results in often and lengthy hospital stays. Hannah is
presently at Duke Medical Care in Durham, North Carolina for a bone marrow
transplant.

Hannah is covered under a family group insurance policy with United Health
Care. However the cost of her many prescriptions, frequent stays at Our Lady
of the Lake Hospital and now at Duke Medical Center (plus the cost of
traveling to and from North Carolina) have become devastating to the
family's finances. In addition, Hannah and her family have had to rent an
apartment in Durham, N.C. because, upon release from the hospital, Hannah
must remain "quarantined" in the area for a minimum of eight months. We are
asking for your support for Hannah and her family.

Hannah's 3rd birthday is July 23rd. A "HELPING HANNAH - BIRTHDAY BENEFIT"
has been set for Sunday, July 23, 2006. The benefit will be held at St. John
the Evangelist Catholic Church located at 15208 Hwy. 73, Prairieville, LA.
The benefit will begin at 10:00 A.M. and end at 5:30 P.M. The following are
just a few of the fund raising events that will be offered at the benefit.
There are numerous ways that you can help. Please come and show your support
for Hannah, Grant, Kristen, and Kevin.

Garage Sale Update

"Garage sale to raise Awareness of Diabetes"

We would like to let everyone know that on May 6th we will be having a garage sale to raise money to promote the “Awareness of Diabetes”

We are well into the starting of the garage sale. We have had someone offer and donate jambalaya & white beans, so we will be selling plates as well as plants that also have been donated. If you would like to donate some of your old things, it would probably work best by dropping them of at the beauty shop.

Mon- Wed-Thur-Fri 9am-5pm or till 12:00 on Sat.

2509 S. Purpera Rd.

We will be accepting items until May 4th.

Thank you guys for the support, hopefully with the Awareness of what Juvenile Diabetes can do, children will be saved.

I hope to see everyone out at the Relay this Friday Night! Stop the TCS Tent and say Hello!!! My group of young Karate Students will be demonstrating their karate skills at the Relay at 9pm so if your out and about, come and check the kids out.

April 5th, 2006

Hello everyone, there is so much to discuss here that I hope I can remember it all. I will use a bullet set up to keep it all seperate. Lots of things are happening for the TCS group this month.

Thats about all I have for now, If I have left out something very important, please send me an email at thetcsteam@yahoo.com

March 18th, 2006

Well, the garage sale was a much more rousing success than I could have imagined. Not only did we exceed our expectations but we ended up with so much quality items left over that our next garage sale will be partialy stocked  from the start! Our 1 day cash total exceeded $2300 !!!! We also received checks from various people and business throughout the parish. It was great to see so many friends and familiar faces. I have so many "Thank You's!" to give out.... First to our volunteers: Amy, Tiffani, Donald, Angel, Tina, Gemma, Ashely, Lacie, Roland, both Mary's, Brad, and perhaps one or two more I cant seem to think of... also to our helpers: Andrew, Brandi, Maw-Maws and Paw-Paws everywhere, Moms and Dads of Volunteers, so many...

To the area businesses that helped us get all of this off the ground with services or donations:

I'm  sure that's not everybody, but my mind is blank. So I will update the site soon with all the info I can get and let you know how many have helped us. Pics will be coming soon....

thanks to all again!

March 14th, 2006

Remembering you on this day Riki. A year went by very fast, but the pain of your passing has never dulled. You are missed more and more each day and time has done nothing to ease this misery. We love and miss you more than these words could ever represent.

Relay for Life News:

Relay for Life will be held on April 28th from 7pm-7am.  Yep, this is an overnight event.  We will have two teams, Team Riki (which is let by Stacey) and Team Britnee (which is led by Brandi).  Both teams will be under the SAME tent so whichever team you want to join, please join.  We will all be together.  We still need committed volunteers for this event!  Please join one of the teams so that we can have a great impact!  Stacey and Brandi will also need volunteers to help us set up our booths under the tent that day.  We can begin working on them at 12pm and they must be set up by 5:30pm.

This is going to be a great event for the TCS team as we will be selling our t-shirts and other items for fundraising purposes!  Even if you can’t stay all night, please join us!  We can always do shifts if you would like.  Email Brandi (bduplessis@epicgrp.com or cherresse@eatel.net) or Stacey (staceyvill@eatel.net) for more information on how to volunteer for the event.  WE NEED YOU!!! We will also be making our own TCS team shirts to wear to the event, so please email us with your shirt size!  Spouses are welcome to wear our TCS team shirts also, so be sure to include their size too!

February 13th, 2006

The TCS team successfully made the planned rounds at Children's Hospital in New Orleans and at OLOL in Baton Rouge. We thought we would need a red wagon to help us carry all the items, but we ended up needing 5 red wagons. All 5 were overstuffed! We were able to give out all of our gift bags and we distributed all of the toys. I wish I had pics of all the happy faces we saw on Saturday. Unfortunately we are unable to show all the pics unless we had written consent from all the parents of each child. A minor technicality that we weren't prepared for. We will know better next time. To see some pics, go to the image gallery. The Members that made the trip were Amy, Angel, Gemma, Lori & Tiffany. It was a little bittersweet at both hospitals. New Orleans was Britnee's hospital and OLOL was Riki and Kirby's hospital. Walking those hallways give such a complex emotion. Its quite hard to explain. All in all, I'm sure Kirby, Riki and Britnee are all proud of us for doing what we are doing in the face of such adversity.

Garage Sale is on! The 2nd Quarter TCS Garage Sale will take place on March 18th & 19th, 2006 at Carpenters Chapel Church in Galvez. There are still some issues we need to iron out with the church, but for now it seems all a go! We will openly ask again for your generous donations very soon. Please check back often as all the news on this event could break any day. I will also send out emails to those on my update lists. If you would like to receive my updates, with the subject titled "I want on the update list". Be sure to include your name and all the email addresses you wish to submit.

There will be another TCS Meeting announcement very soon so we can prepare for the garage sale. For anyone who is not familiar with our garage sales, let me give you a simple description: All the items we sale at the garage sale (gs) are from donated items for people in our community. You, me, co-workers, family, anyone can donate as long as the goods are in usable condition and worthy of such an event. All the money raised in this gs will help the TCS team purchase gift bags, shirts, pay for new items for patients, cash donations to fund raisers and ship care packages to children out of town. All the funds raised goes back to patients in some form of help from us.  There will be an announcement very soon on the day to bring me your donated items for the garage sale. So start thinking about it, rummage thru your closet, shed and entertainment systems for things you don't wear, listen to or watch, use or ride.

The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life will be held on April 28th, 2006 at the Tanger Mall Outlet Center in Gonzales. The TCS team will be there. Our Team Captain, Stacey Villneurve will be gathering your team pledges. If you would like to aid us in manpower for this 12 hour event, please send an email to staceyvill@eatel.net to find out more. Incidentally, April 28th is Kirby Hawthorne and Preston Williams' Birthdays. Kirby would be 22 and Preston will make 1 year old. It will be a day of remembering and a day of celebrating. I hope to see you all there for some food, fun and fellowship.

Be sure to check the links page for links to all the patients we are actively supporting.

February 11th, 2006

Today is the day we hand deliver some smiles to the children of the New Orleans Children's Hospital. Last night I saw an amazing collection of goods for the kids at Tiffany's house. It was so inspiring. There is no doubt that today, The TCS team will indeed make a difference. The girls were hard at work last nite putting things together in an orderly fashion. Tiffany, Tina, Gemma, Lori, Angel were the difference. Thanks to Amy for the wonderful gifts to our older kids. Laci's donations were simply amazing. David Villermarette, Pastor of Freedom Church in Saint Amant, donated brand new Bibles, Children's Bible Stories and other books of faith for our gift bags. Rhonda King with State Farm Insurance, Jackie Martinez with the Red Barn Produce/  Bayou Critter Trucking, Al King with New Star Transportation and Brian St. Germain for all your cash donations toward our endeavor to buy toys for the Children's Hospital in New Orleans ( cancer ward).  We can't do this alone, God Bless these wonderful people for being there for us.

Later Today I will post pictures of our day. I know they will capture the true meaning of our mission.

Update on Our TCS Efforts:

Our Mission Statement:

The TCS group started in 2005 from family members in our community who suffered the loss of a loved one from cancer. Together we bonded and formed a team of committed individuals who know first hand the importance of love and friendship when faced with cancer. We have watched our family members suffer under harsh treatments yet they still found the courage to smile and laugh. It is our mission to carry on that very spirit of laughing and loving that we learned so well. TCS wants to give a smile back to those who need it most. To help is divine, to sit idle empties the soul.

TCS, Making a difference for young cancer patients.

About 2 weeks ago we held our first quarter TCS meeting. There was a tremendous sense of accomplishment from the things we were able to discuss and decide. I will highlight some of our upcoming events and plans.

The TCS group has its email address up. We can all be reached at thetcsteam@yahoo.com  Sheri Schexnayder, TCS member, and owner of www.geauxnetworks.com has offered up her talents to help us get www.teamcancersucks.com up and running.

Sheri is also very active in the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society Team In Training fund raiser. To help Sheri reach her goal of $2800 by April, please send her an email at sheri@geauxmail.com or visit her Team in Traing site at http://www.geauxnetworks.com/team_in_training.htm  Remember every little bit helps.  Sheri will be walking in honor of her brother Ed Schexnayder III, Kirby Hawthorne & Riki Jo Leader who all have passed away in 2005 from various types of Leukemia. She will also walk for Ed Bateman who is currently battling Leukemia. Please go to www.geauxnetworks.com to read more...

February 11th, 2006 - The TCS group will travel to the New Orleans Children's hospital to deliver gift bags of goodies and a red wagon full of toys and such for the kids. We will leave at 12 noon from the YMCA at Lamar-Dixon center. All TCS members are invited to attend. If you have any toys, videos, etc that you would like to donate to the kids at NOCH, please contact a TCS member prior to 2/10/06. email us at thetcsteam@yahoo.com

On March 18th, 2006, The TCS team will hold its quarterly Garage Sale. The place has yet to be determined, but mark your calenders now. Once we establish a place, we will be begging you all to get us your stuff as donations are the only way we do so well.
We are raising money for the mission we are trying to fulfill.

April 28th, 2006 The ACS Relay for Life will be held at Tanger Mall in Gonzales. Im not sure about all the details yet, but stay tuned.

The TCS page of www.teamcancersucks.com has been claimed and we now own it. As of right now, it directs you to this site, but I am working on getting the TCS page setup independently.

There are new pics of Riki, Rylee, Claire and Cole on the pics pages. Feel free to browse around and save a few to your desktop. Dont forget to take some time to sign Riki's guest book.

In light of the recent success we had with the Garage Sale in October, the TCS team is planning on having another one in March of this year. If you have items you would like to donate to the next TCS garage sale, please hold on to it till i announce a time and place for us to store it while we prepare to host this event. More news to come on this soon...

The company MAPP construction has graciously donated 6 laptop computers to our group. Most dont work or boot up, but two of them do work. I plan on getting those that do work upgraded and cleaned up for our Keep in Touch program. The TCS group will lend our laptops to families while they are remotely located out of town. The laptop will provide each family with the ability to email and internet access while they are confined to a hospital fighting cancer. If you and anyone you know can help me get these laptops up and running or used for parts, please let me know.

December 25th, 2005

Merry Christmas to all of you who visit this site regularly. Watching the hit counter grow gives me more inspiration to continue to do what I do. This is our first Christmas without Riki Jo. But this is not just about us, its about the Hawthornes, the Schexnayders, the Shaddingers, the Duplessis', the George's, the Willeford's and so many more. We are all trying real hard to put on a happy face and enjoy the holiday season. I'm sure I really feel the desire to be happy, its just very hard to do with so much to be sad about. I will keep trying to help make a difference for other local folks and keep the site evolving into something special.

To all of those who have lost loved ones this year, my heart goes out to you. I hope and pray we call all find peace in the holidays and make the heartbreak ease up on us all.

To all of you who are home, visiting loved ones or in the hospital fighting your cancer battle, Merry Christmas to you too.

Merry Christmas Riki, Ed, Kirby, Britnee, Grandpa, Quincy, Zoie

We all love and miss you.

December 13th, 2005

Hello everyone, more news for us to pull together for. This is perfect way to spend $3 bucks and make huge impact. Read the email I got and see if you heart strings are tugged. Not a gimmick, not a hoax. TCS has sent cash in a Christmas card already.

Good morning   I wanted to enlist your help for a friend of mine. She
is legally blind and wheel chair bound, not to mention other problems.
She's about my age and all alone.  Her landlord trying to evict her from
her apartment because she doesn't have enough money to pay.  She lives on
fix income and its just not enough.  Her social worker ( who is only 22 I
think) doesn't help.  I would like for you to post this on your web page
in hopes of getting some funds sent to her to help her.  I thought if any
one would send a dollar or two it might cheer her up plus help her to
realize that there are people who really care.  What a nice Christmas for
her to start receiving at such a giving time.  Her name is Patricia Engle

Thank you for helping all people of all walks of life. Love, Mom

TCS has also sent shirts to Nolan Kane http://www.caringbridge.org/il/jeaniekane/index.htm at St Judes

and Quincy Russell www.caringbridge.org/visit/quincyrussellat St Judes.

Merry Christmas to Quincy, Nolan and Chloe!!!

December 12th, 2005 *** The Guestbook is working!!***

Seasons greeting to you all. I hope you are able to find happiness this Christmas in your own special way. I am trying to cope with our first Christmas without Riki Jo. Even as I type that, it stings so bad. I know I'm not alone in this empty feeling. I have plenty of friends that have experienced the same pain. Many of them you have read about right here on this site. I dont like being the front page for bad news, but it seems that what this site has become. Dont turn to this site for sorrow, but turn to it as a chance to make a difference. I am trying to provide a communication link for those who need help.

Please dont forget to visit little Chloe Forbes at www.caringbridge.com visit the name Chloebug

Hi. You do not know me, but I follow your website and all the good  you do for others. I did not know your sister, but here @ Eatel several people did, which is how I found out about her battle. I wanted to know if you could  help get the word out for a friend of mine. I have attached a flyer that we  will be passing around Gonzales. We are having a benefit for Johnathan  “Bump” Gautreaux to help w/medical expenses. The day before Thanksgiving he had = open heart surgery to replace a couple of heart valves. About a month ago he  got really sick and that is when they discovered the infection in his heart  (on his 30th b-day). He will have a long recovery ahead of him. Word  of mouth about our benefit would certainly help a lot. Thanks!

Many thanks to the volunteers for their help for the success of this event. Without that commitment and hard work we would not have been so successful. The sale raised a grand total of $853.21 !!!! That's only $146 bucks short of my goal. So for this to be our first garage sale, I would consider it to be a fantastic start!

But lets thank the real hero's, our volunteers:
Amy Falcon
Jace Babin
Laci Davis
Sheila Bentley
Roland Legnon
Donald Hawthorne
Gemma Hebert
Ashley Lanoux

and lets thank those who donated the items that we sold (those I remember): Lori Russell
Jace Babin
Rhonda King
Debra Savoy
Kelli Buratt
Laci Davis
Amy Falcon
Frank Cagnalotti
Brian St Germain
Sheila Bentley

And finally, I want to thank my Mom, Sheila, for letting us ransack her house for 2 days and litter her drive way with boxes to make this happen. thanks mom for hosting us and letting us do this for all the right reasons.

Please feel free to also thank those who helped in your own way. Only together can we help make a difference for our local young cancer patients.
Together we are the TCS team.

November 9, 2005:

Hello good friends and family.

Today I was informed of a new local young cancer patient in our midsts. This time it its a real heartbreaker. A little girl name Chloe Forbes was diagnosed with? Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) subtype M4. The exact same type and subtype as Riki Jo amd same type as Kirby. The precious little 3 year old girl and her family have had their worlds flipped upside down.

I am asking each one of you to please visit www.caringbridge.com and visit Chloe's site. Search under "Chloebug".
Please take a moment to sign her guest book.

I have sent an email to her family and I am hoping and praying that she will conquer this AML and we will get a chance to help her do it.

I will have more on Chloe as info comes available.
She is adorable.

November 1, 2005:

There is currently a raffle being held to benefit little 6 month old Preston. Each Ticket is $5 and the grand prize is 2 suite tickets for the Saints vs Detroit Lions game on December 24th, 2005 with an autographed football too!

The drawing will be held on Friday, November 4th, 2005, winner does not need to be present to win. I am unsure as to who and where to get these tickets. I bought mine at Reflexxions Hair studio in St Amant. They didn't have very many left.

Please email Christine cboudr8@aol.com to find out where to get your raffle tickets. If anyone out there knows where we can get raffle tickets, please notify me ASAP and I will post this info on the website www.rikijororcks.com

THIS IS THE LATEST ON LITTLE PRESTON. KEEP PRAYING!!!!

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2005 03:19 PM CDT

Ok, once again we need your prayers. I guess I was still riding on the glory of the good results in Memphis, but a little too quickly. We are still in the hospital, and now besides Staff and a cold, Preston's numbers have bottomed out. His numbers dropping was a complete shock to us- the docs included. On Sat. his ANC was 1900 and yesterday 280- thats the lowest they have ever been. Today it is 404. His red blood cells (hemoglobin and platelets) are also dropping. So Dr. Deyo came in this morning to speak to me and I am now very alarmed. The numbers could be a result of two things: 1) since his immune system is compromised he is using these cells to fight the infection or 2) and we really really hope it is not this- the neuroblastoma has entered and attacked his bone marrow. This is the last thing that we want to hear. Preston's prognosis through out this ordeal has been good because of the fact that his bone marrow was clear. SO, please please pray so hard for the results of his marrow to be negative. It would change his entire protocol and prognosis. He is tenatively scheduled to have bone marrow biopsies tomorrow. Please say an extra prayer for us tonight. I am worried sick right now and don't know what to think. I called Dr.Santana to run all of this by him and he will be consulting with Dr. Deyo. He said that he wasn't 100% sure of why his counts are dropping. So we are back in isolation for now and don't see us getting out of the hospital before the weekend. This is all just so weird to me and sudden. I mean his last chemo was almost a month ago. I could understand this happening after chemo, but not after his counts have already recovered. His body is acting like he just had chemo. Lets hope that his little body will fight off the infection and his counts will climb.

Praying for good results
Christine

October 12, 2005:

Okay, I talked to my friend Suzette today and she expressed that with the recent tragic events……other organizations are suffering with lack of donations. I can assure you that Hurricane Katrina didn’t stop the need for help in donations for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. Suzette along with several others from the area will be traveling to San Francisco in the coming weeks to walk in the LLS marathon. Although money has been raised for sponsorship on this particular event……….it doesn’t stop there………..Suzette explained that with the Hurricanes, the people effected with Leukemia, Lymphoma, and other cancers are ever present and are in great need.

Please see the attached flyer for a Jambalaya Dinner to help to raise money for the LLS. We are such a giving community, and we are also a very appreciative group of people. Let’s continue to help the fight against cancer!!!!!

The Jambalaya will be cooked at a location off of Jefferson near Bluebonnet. Delivery is available in the Baton Rouge area with a minimum of 10 orders.

Please feel free to contact Suzette directly. Her information is on the flyer. Or feel free to contact me and I will be happy to pass the information along!

Thanks again!!!!!

September 22, 2005:

Hello everyone, here is what is happening:

- the garage sale is still postponed and has not been rescheduled as of yet. It has been discussed, but we cannot find a date open to do this.
- The current rash of storms have compromised our ability to plan ahead. I am desperate to get this going, but I am forced to wait. I will keep you posted.
- We have had some talk of giving shirts to the kids around Christmas time. Of course, this will depend money raised and hospitals in the NO area opening.
- I am pursuing a massive change/upgrade of my website. I want it to be bigger and better than ever. Attached is a adobe file with my outline on my ideas for the site navigation. Please feel free to send me questions or comments. Do not share this info with persons outside our network.
- The Leukemia-Lymphoma Society's Light the Night walk has been postponed also. They are discussing 2 alternative dates, Oct. 30th and Nov. 13th.
- Once they have a date planned, I will post it.

If you can donate, please get your donations to the following persons:

Gemma Herbert or Tiffany Cavell

Any money left over (if we have more donations than needed) will go to our TCS fund and will contribute to our efforts to make "care packages" for local cancer patients. Nothing goes to waste.

Thank you all for your time and efforts to help further our cause. I feel really good about being associated with such awesome and motivated people.

September 14, 2005:

Both the Garage Sale and Night Walk have been postponed until further notice. Any changes to this will be made as soon as I have more information on them.

The new layout is finally online. I'm still having some problems with the guestbook, but you can at least view it. The problem is any new posts made aren't showing up. I'll work on that this week.

I will also be redoing Ed's Page within the next few weeks, so keep an eye out for that as well. And don't worry, it won't be girly like Riki's and Kirby's sites.

September 4, 2005:

8:30am - Kirby Hawthorne, a local Convent resident, died today from complications after a bone marrow transplant. She was fighting AML Leukemia for the past 11 months. Please pray for Kirbys family during this difficult time.

My shirts are almost gone! I have less than 100 shirts left and I hope to move them all before the Light the Night Walk. New designs are being made and wont be released until all the current stock is depleted. Shirts are now offered for the following prices: 1 for $10 - 2 for $15 - 3 for $20 or 4 or more for $6 each. If I must ship them to you, shipping charges will apply. There is a very limited stock, but I can tell you I have 40+ small sizes available. In light of the recent events, I would like to ask everyone who gets to read this page to consider becoming an organ donor. There can be no more a greater gift you can give than the gift of life. I hold organ donors in very high regard as their last gift to others is a chance at life. What a truly amazing gift it is. Don't forget to give Blood too! - Thank you Zoie and Quincy.

Recent news concerning an newly diagnosed cancer patient: Preston Jason Williams, 3 month old son of Jason and Christine Williams needs our help! Preston Jason Williams, was born April 28, 2005. Preston was diagnosed at only 8 weeks old with stage 4S neuroblastoma. Preston is a patient at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

http://www.caringbridge.org search Prestonwilliams: Visit this link to read about Preston. Preston was born just 3 days after my son Cole was born. I just cant believe cancer would strike such a small baby. Please mention Preston in your prayers. Thanks to everyone who has emailed me concerning the upcoming garage sale. I will have more info on its details soon!

Hello everyone! Its time to give you an update on the things I have been working on lately. First, I have been communicating with Team Britnee (Britnee Duplessis) on how we can jointly "make a difference" for young cancer patients. The wonderful girls at Team Britnee had a fantastic idea and I am all for it. We are going to have a garage sale on Saturday September 17th 2005. Donated Proceeds from the sale will buy specially made shirts for us to give to children at the New Orleans Children's Hospital. That is what I call making a difference. More details will be made available once we get them sorted out. If you have some items you would like to donate to the garage sale, please let me know at bnclegnon@etigers.net . I would be happy to sell them or hold it (space is limited) until the sale is held. This is a great idea and I would love to have all of the Teams and folks who have helped Riki contribute in someway to the success of our garage sale. You can donate items to sale or come by and buy some of our merchandise. Anyway you look at it, its a wonderful thing to do. We have more ideas coming, but one step at a time.

Also, in September this year, the "Light the Night" walk will be held by the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society (LLS) of Baton Rouge. This event will be held in Baton Rouge. I will post details very soon. The LLS is an organization that raises money to give to existing cancer patients and to fund blood cancer research. That's right, they give money to existing cancer patients (of course they have to apply and meet certain criteria). I will be composing a letter in invite very soon and posting it here for you all to read as well as emailing it out.

There is also a need for financial assistance for the Shaddinger family. If you feel inclined to do so, please drop off your donation to any Bank One branch into an account titled Michael Shaddinger. July 27th, 2005:

Its been a very tragic week here in Gonzales La. On Monday morning, my long time good friend Quincy Shaddinger was killed after being hit by a car off interstate 10. He was 36 years old and the father of 5 young children. Q-ball (as he was known) was always the funniest and outrageous guys around. Multi-talented and forever generous. After Quincy, God broke the mold. He was an awesome father and a fine friend. I will miss him everyday. To leave a message on Quincy's guest book click here. RIP Q-ball.

Local resident Britnee Duplessis, 10 years old, who had been battling brain tumors for some time, passed away today. It really is a very sad story. Children should be off limits to cancer but they are not. Cancer does not discriminate on any level. To visit Britnee's website and guest book, click here.

Despite all the bad news, please keep your heads held high as their families need your support as well as Kirby.

My deepest condolences goes out to the Duplessis and Shaddinger families.

My family celebrated Riki's birthday last week. I really enjoyed being with my family on such an occasion. In Riki's memory I planted a weeping willow tree in the back yard. I hope one day it gets to shade my kids while they play.

To make everyone aware, I still have plenty of T-shirts left in almost every color and the various messages. All shirts are $10 each and portions of each sale benefits Kirby Hawthorne. I have also placed some of the shirts on Ebay. To find the shirts there, search by "cancer t-shirt".

Hello to everyone. I hope the days have been kind to you. I have updated the pictures on all 3 photo pages. Please feel free to enjoy them and download them if you like. I would like to take this time to ask you to put a little girl named Krista Brewer in your prayers as she is fighting a brain tumor in Texas. Please visit her site at www.kristabrewer.com if you get a chance. Mom (Sheila) has taken a special interest in her and has sent her an all pink care package. I'm sure Riki is keeping watch over her at Mom's request. She has been having some bad days recently, so some warm wishes and prayers are just what she needs. Also, Ed Schnexyder is still in CCU at MD Anderson in Texas but is making good progress. I will try to keep everyone posted. Also, the CANCER SUCKS bracelets will be in soon. I have a waiting list for everyone who wants one. They are one size fits all and come in purple and pink. If you would like to get on the waiting list, please send me an email confirming the amount and color of your choice. Those on the list get bracelets first.

Thanks everyone for your continued support and Remembrance of Riki Jo.

April 10, 2005:

The benefit at Grace's was fantastic in every way. Tons of people came out to support Riki's family. I was so busy during the day selling shirts and buttons that I don't think I got to see everyone who came by. Little Rylee was there for most of the day and was really enjoying herself. Please check out the photo pages for some new updated pics every Saturday. Thanks to all of you who came out and had some fun in Riki's memory.

April 2, 2005:

I would like to remind all of you who visit this site regularly that the upcoming benefit for Riki is still on schedule and will be held on April 9th, 2005 at Grace's Lounge in St Amant from Noon till Six pm. I really hope to see you all there. If you can, please bring a friend or two. Lets make this get together a celebration of Riki and her courage in the face of adversity. If you know someone who can cook a great jambalaya, then get them to join the mini pot cook off at Riki's benefit.

In another note, Ed Schnexyder of Baton Rouge, who is fighting ALL Leukemia, Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and now pneumonia is back in ICU at MD Anderson. Please say a special prayer for ED and his family. Ed was able to speak to Riki a few times as they shared a similar fight.

I would also like to congratulate Kirby for finishing her last round of consolidation Chemo! Keep your chin up Kirb, as we are all pulling for you and wishing you well. Kirby and Riki were at OLOL together each fighting AML.

Please note that all yellow raffle tickets are due back to me or Dad (Mr Roland) or the person you got the books from this week.

Riki Jo Rocks!

March 28, 2005:

Happy Easter. I sit here thinking of Riki post Easter Sunday. I sure do miss Riki on days like this. But the great comforter in the Holy Spirit will fill our hearts soon.

I have been trying to update this site for week now and it seems that I can never get enough free time to do it. I hope everyone was able to spend some quality time with your families during the Easter Weekend. Remember the true meaning of Easter, He is Risen!

Please be sure to get your raffle ticket books turned in by 4/8/05. More T-Shirt orders are being made. I am also taking orders for the Riki Jo Memorial Decals for windows of your cars. Please email me with how many decals you would like at before 4/6/05.The cost is $8.00 each.

Blessings to all

March 21, 2005:

Hello Everyone, today is my first day back at work in a week. I haven't had time to send you all an email in some time. I am sorry, but I hope to make you all smile a little today. :)

My family and I would like to thank all of you who:
came to see Riki during her fight with AML;
sent her encouraging emails;
sent her cards;
brought her food
made yourself stay away when her counts were low
gave her gifts;
called her to check on her;
gave so generously to her benefit;
came to her side when things got bad;
came to her wake/funeral.
I am really searching for words that have enough meaning to Thank you with. Despite our deep feelings of loss and grief, we are filled with Love & pride because Riki was truly loved by so many. I hope you all can accept our most sincerest and heartfelt "Thank You" from the Leader & Legnon families. It was love that brought us all together and love will get us thru this difficult time.

I know I speak for all of us when I say how much I loved Riki and how much she loved us. ( If you didn't know Riki personally, then I can only say that her cup was running over with personality. :)

To all the families that have bent over backwards trying to make our time of mourning a little easier, Thanks again - we really appreciate your help. To all the members of Team Riki, Thanks for being there for her and for us all these years. You are great and we will always remember your love and support.
To all of those who prayed for Riki, knowing her or not, Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.
To all of those who donated to Riki's benefit, gave something for Rylee or bought raffle tickets, Thank you too!
To all of those who visited Riki in the hospital and gave her company when the days can get long, Thank you.
To all of those who called Riki just to talk and tried to get a word in but just couldn't, Thank you.
To all the Doctors and nurses that catered to Riki's every need and did your outright best to save her from this horrible cancer, Thank you.
To our Lord and Savior, Thank you for bringing our beloved Riki into God's house and keeping her in constant Joy for eternity.

It has been near impossible to track and thank each person and each business individually for there contribution in whatever way to Riki and her family.
I wish it were an easy task to do. I can only say Thanks.

This event has made me relish our time here on this rock. Our entire existence is based on Love and nothing else.

I feel blessed to have meet, known, shared or otherwise spent time with all of you on this update email. I look forward to enjoying more time with most of you in the future. I will also keep Riki's email address and website up and running. You can still send her an email if you would like. Please check her website ever so often for new pics and a story or two. If you have any stories you would like to tell, please send them to me. If you have any pics that you would like to share, I would be glad to put them on the site.

I will keep you all posted on Riki's benefit on April 9th, 2005. Still on and on schedule. I hope to see you there to celebrate Riki and her impact on each of us.

I also have yellow raffle tickets available for pickup or purchase. Please call me or shoot me an email to get yours.

On another note, T-shirts are in and the order was not totally compete. I have filled most of them but there are approximately 25 shirts short. I will do my best to get you your shirts ASAP and by the end of the week. I will send out an email tomorrow with more detailed shirt information. Again, sorry for the delay.

For those who are in prayer groups, please put Ed Schexnayder (edschex@geauxmail.com ) on your list. He is fighting a relapsed ALL leukemia, Lymphoma and a bout with pneumonia. He is from Baton Rouge, only 30 years old and has a two young children (twins). Ed's mom and dad live in St. Amant La. I am praying for you Ed.

March 16, 2005:

I wish to thank all the family and friends that have come to see and pay last respects to Riki Jo Leader in the past two days. I have never felt so loved and so sad at the same time. Although it warms my heart to see all of those whom loved Riki, as I did, come to see her, it still leaves a wound that still smarts. Her wake was absolutely beautiful and the response from all was amazing. There is no doubt that the past two days, no matter how hard they were, was the beginning of a healing experience. I find myself from time to time getting melancholy about the old days, but I then think of Riki and how strong and courageous she was. If she were to see me weak she would set me straight real quick. I remember when she was a little girl and was always under my feet everywhere I went. I miss having my sister bug me in ways only she knew how to do.

For all of Riki's close friends like Starlett, Jace', Ashley, Nicole, Tammy, Christy, Dashea, Paige, Ann, Trisha, Mary and Lacie, you are TEAM RIKI and will always be. (If I left you out, I am really sorry. My mind is not fully functional.) Team Riki is what "True Friends" really are. Thank you Team Riki for your friendship, courage and blessings. Riki is who she was because of you. Wear your "CANCER SUCKS" shirts with pride when out and about. When people ask you where you got that shirt, tell'em about Riki Jo.

Thanks to all the old neighbors who came out, like the Bendily's, Turner's, Bunyett's, Dowiatt's, Seiars', Zimmerman's, Gautreau's, Soileau's, Cagnolitti's, Shaddinger's, Quasdorf's, Girourd's, Lipoma's, Yovertons, Harrison's, St. Germaine's, Mrs Gracie Deville, Berthelot's, Landen's, and many many more. I just hope all who came were able to sign the guest book at the church.

To all who visit this site, please dont hesitate to drop me a line to share some story or picture you have. We are building a scrap book of pics and stories and such to post on the web and put in a book for Rylee. Me and my family would love to hear from you.

I would also like to challenge you to put together your own "scrapbook" of pics and memeories that you may have of Riki Jo. These would make a nice gift to a little girl named Rylee when she needs to learn about her loving Mom, Riki.

I also would like to take the time to address the subject of the next Benefit for Riki. All plans are still on schedule for a grand event to take place at Grace's Lounge on April 9th, 2005 to benefit the Riki Leader Benefit Fund. Riki maybe gone, but her family remains the bills are still going to keep coming. Lets make this party one to remember and pay tribute to our dear Riki Jo.

Please visit the photogallery to see new pics of Riki Jo.

Thank you all for visiting, come back often as I intend to keep her memory alive via her website.

My love to you for the Rest of my days Riki,

March 14th, 2005:

The angels in heaven are singing today as we remember my sister Riki Jo Leader who passed this morning after a 5 month battle with Leukemia. Her condition turned bad Sunday and this morning, her body could not keep up the fight. Riki goes to heaven knowing how much we loved her and we all know that she loved us too. Riki was a very special person and has touched many lives. I feel extraordinarily blessed to have grown up with her and have her as a sister. Now we are at the point where we grieve and then we celebrate Riki and the awesome life she had. I will always miss her and think of her as I am sure most of you will too.

May God have Riki's smile to shine on the heavens. There is still a little Riki named Rylee, that will carry on her mom's joy and love.

I love you Riki Jo, And I will miss you everyday.
